Regretfully my knowledge on mystery school symbolism is not that proficient thus I am playing a lot of catch up on this sort of stuff.
I'm increasingly becoming more and more intrigued by it all (hopefully not to much in a Dan Brown sort of way:) The sun, serpent and spanned wings seem to be a strongly reoccurring theme.
I feel the divide between the 'mythic' and 'physical' worlds has reached a point in history were each is ready to be reintegrated with the other.
